The earth calls. The ancestors watch. The maidens answer.
Umcimbi 2026 Part 1 opens the sacred season of renewal with the ancient planting ceremony in honour of Inkosazana—the Zulu goddess of agriculture, fertility, and rain. This powerful documentary captures the gathering of young maidens from across the region, united in purpose as they prepare to perform a ritual as old as the hills themselves.
Under the watchful eyes of elders and community leaders, the maidens assemble, their traditional regalia bright against the landscape. The air hums with anticipation as they ready themselves to plant the sacred garden—a living offering to the goddess, a prayer whispered into the soil, and a rite of passage that connects them to generations of women who came before.
